Kitchen Design Inspiration: Have You Considered Green Cabinets?

In a decor world in which a farmhouse style kitchen with white cabinets, white subway tile, a white farmhouse sink, and white ship lap seems to be all the rage, it can be frustrating to find inspiration if that isn't personally your jam. Don't get me wrong, that style is beautiful and I love it. It just doesn't fit my house and try as hard as I did to make it work in my head for two years of planning, I just couldn't. So our kitchen renovation has been on hold until I can figure out what I want. Are you looking for some non-white cabinet color inspiration too?

After quite a spirited discussion about a photo of a kitchen with warm wood tones and gray green accent cabinets over on my Instagram here, my wheels began turning. It reminded me of this muted green armoire in my living room and how much I love it against our log walls.

Turns out once I started looking, there is quite a bit of inspiration for those who may want to consider using green cabinets in their kitchen too. Here are some beautiful examples of kitchens that incorporate different shades and amounts of greens in a variety of styles.

This farmhouse kitchen shows that farmhouse can be done in something other than all white. This was one of the first kitchens I saved to an ideaboard on Houzz when we bought our house.  I saved it because the floors looked like ours, but now I see that green cabinet and how amazing it looks! Notice lots of wood and black, not white cabinets.

This Mediterranean kitchen features jade green cabinets with a brown glaze that perfectly compliment the terra cotta floors. The rustic beams add the perfect accent of wood.

This kitchen, with seaglass green cabinets, has a warm and rustic vibe because of the reclaimed tobacco barn floors. But the beautifully detailed white coffered ceiling gives it an almost coastal feel that would make it a perfect beach house kitchen.

Greens are not just for rustic or coastal kitchen designs. This amazing Mid-Century Modern kitchen boasts cabinets painted in one of my absolute favorite green paints, Benjamin Moore Caldwell Green. Brass light fixtures are a fabulous companion with this green. This is also another wonderful example of how well green works with wood tones.

I came across this log home kitchen a while back too. Of course this one spoke to me especially because it is so similar to my kitchen. The maple upper cabinets with an antiqued green are a beautiful compliment to the warm wood toned logs and other cabinets. The absolute showpiece of this kitchen is that copper hood though.

Furniture

Remember our hunter green and cranberry of the mid 1990's?  This is not it. This celery green and brick red combination may be a classic farmhouse kitchen color scheme, but with the tongue and groove ceilings and beams, recessed lighting, and painted brick; this kitchen is timeless.

So I'm curious to hear what you think. Do you like color in a kitchen? What do you think about green?
