One Room Challenge [Modern Rustic Home Office] Week 5

It's been a blur, but here we are at the end of week 5 of the One Room Challenge. We made some big progress this past week, even though a lot of it doesn't show in the room yet. 

The most exciting thing this week is that the new light fixture arrived and we installed it.

We have been on quite the journey with lighting selection.  We started off wanting a ceiling fan, but then decided to go for maximum light.  So here was the winner from Lamps Plus:

Life is busy with four kids so most of our renovation work happens after the kids go to bed each night and on the weekends.  So this is how we installed the light in the dark room, by headlamp.

And here it is in the light of day.

I'm excited that our convertible sofa will be here on Monday. Once I found it, I was happy at the prospects of having another sleeping space for guests. And the rug is supposed to arrive Monday as well.  Yes, it's a bold choice! Hopefully no shipping delays happen and everything comes in time!

I made a lot of progress painting the desk, but there's still more to do.

The slot car track side of the custom wall cabinet is painted and I only got a little of that green paint on the basement floor. The frame sides need to be attached and then it will be ready to be installed on the wall above the sofa. I know looking through these photos it looks like a crazy color palette, but this green will be hidden most of the time unless the slot cars are being played with.

Thankfully reinforcements, aka Mom and Dad, are coming in this weekend to help us with the final push to finish (and equally important, watch the kids!) The to-do list got a little longer instead of shorter this week!  Here's what we're hoping to accomplish:

• Paint the walls
• Find a desk top
• Choose lighting and ceiling fan/light combo
• Find a love seat (I've been searching Craigslist like crazy and can't find anything. I may have to branch out in my search)
• Find/build end tables and coffee table
• Build and paint slot car track table
• Build shelves
• Make some art and find some art
• Paint desk
