Summer Porch - Summer Home Love Tour

Welcome to the back porch!  I'm excited to be part of the Summer Home Love Tour this year and if you're coming from Honey n Hydrangea, didn't you love Jessica's tropical foliage?  I'm sharing what I've done to show our back porch some love. The three big porches were what caught my eye originally when I first saw photos of this house online and they are my favorite things about it.  Can you tell I really like red for Summer?

This year I used a lot of ferns on the porch.  My old Dairylea milk can made a great plant stand.  Because we have such hot Summers, in the past I have struggled keeping ferns alive.  I've discovered if I plant them in galvanized buckets I have much more success.  They don't have the usual drainage, but in this case that is a good thing.  They stay moist during our blazing hot days.

I kept my same cushions and pillows that have been here for three years because I still like them. I did wash them in my washing machine and dried them in the dryer and they held up well, good as new.

I'm really happy with potato vines this Summer.  They have been very tough so far and provide lots of bright green leaves.  I also have a purple variety in the hanging bucket with the red geraniums.  The ones on the table are actually pieces that the cat broke off of a bigger vine.  I stuck them in water and they rooted with no problems.

Speaking of the cat, he totally photobombed!

I've been using this broken watering can as a planter for years.  If things sit still long enough around here, they usually become a planter of some sort!

Looking the other way on the porch, I added a fun copper candle holder I thrifted recently to an antique iron stand I had.

My favorite addition this Summer was these globe string lights!  It took four sets to cover the whole porch because it's so long, but they're very reasonably priced.  I made sure I missed those ceiling fans when I strung them up, even though only one of them works!

The compass table I painted a few years ago has found its way to the porch recently.  I added a few fun vintage fishing pieces, and of course plants.

More plants in buckets finished off the little seating area at the end of the porch.

And here it is all lit up at night! We're really enjoying these in the evenings.

Thanks for stopping by the porch!
