Living Room Renovation | One Room Challenge | More DIY Wide Plank Floors

Well.  DIY wide plank pine floors take a long time.  That pretty much sums up this last week.  I'm super happy with how they are turning out!  The money saved and the time it takes is kind of a trade off.  I'm going to tell you, I'm so glad big reveal for the One Room Challenge got delayed by a week!  With all of our wood delays we wouldn't be revealing much today otherwise.

In case you missed all of the before photos, you can find them here: Living Room Renovation|One Room Challenge|Before.   I'll just tell you, the thirty year old carpet was pretty bad.  All of the boards are down now and this floor, along with the big opening we made in the wall between the living room and the kitchen/dining room (Living Room Renovation|One Room Challenge|Removing a Log Wall) has made a world of difference to the house.

I've been patching the larger gaps between the boards with flooring wood fill and filling the knots with epoxy.  My little guy has gotten good at dodging the spots of "poxy" on the floor these last few days!

This is the second time we have installed these 12" wide pine plank floors in our house.  If you'd like to see the whole process, you can see it here:

Oh! And one thing I found this week was this Persian rug!  I'm going to need two to ground the two seating areas in the room, and this is a great start! I found this 5x7 rug at a local thrift store for only $45!

So the rest of this week we will be staining and sealing the floor.  Since we are using a water based system, it dries quicker than polyurethane, but we will be pushing the deadline next week for sure.

  1. I can't believe the difference that wider opening makes. It looks like a completely different space. The floors look amazing already.
